We’ve teamed up with Epson to put the EcoTank L7160 through its paces and see how it can benefit our home and business needs
We’ve had the kids home since March. It’s been “interesting”. We have chosen to take them out of creche and it’s been myself and the husband trying to keep the learning alive with tasks we have found online…and boy do the kids require a lot of them.
Printing has become life.
To make learning fun and personal, I try and let Rosie choose what she wants printed which may be to my detriment because she seems to need an awful lot printed each day *insert eye twitch*. Our current printer was doing over time and it was bulky and ink changing was so tedious that I just kept us on black and white printing for months.
We were needing something more affordable to run. Something easier to manage, that could keep up with our daily worksheet needs…which the L7160 excels in.
What makes the Epson EcoTank stand out?
I know, I know, you do a campaign with a brand and you’re supposed to say only nice things. But hear me out. Prior to this amazing partnership, I had seen Teri from Choose A Row bragging about her Epson printer here. I had caught up with Mari-Louise’s post on how it has fitted into her family life here – I was impressed already…any brand of printer that can promise that much ink resourcefulness is a winner and we were thrilled when it arrived.
The set up of our printer, done by my wonderful husband, was pretty simple and filling the ink tanks was easy, mess-free and fun for the kids to watch…you’d swear we didn’t have television.
The L7610 is WiFi compatible which seems pretty redundant in this day and age but being able to download the Epson app and print from my mobile to the printer is so cool.
With the included ink, you can print up to 1500 photos and track the ink usage via the app or the front compartment displayed in the image below – you can easily go 3 years without refilling the ink tanks.
3 years?! That’s a huge saving!
Other features of the Epson EcoTank include:
- The ability to print photos and double-sided documents with this five-colour ink system, which includes a black photo ink and black pigment ink. The printer includes an SD card slot, borderless printing, dual paper trays and LCD screen.
- Protecting you against leaks and spills, it features an enhanced ink filling system engineered for mess-free refills. The new bottles also incorporate a mechanism to ensure that only the correct colours are inserted.
Keen for some printing examples?
The above was printed on card and I’m so excited to frame it for the girl’s room!
With the below image, I was astounded by the photo printing quality. For someone who loves capturing images, to be able to print my memories so easily, without leaving the house, is such a bonus!
This image has deep, rich tones and the printer picked them up easily – I used an Epson-friendly glossy photo paper from Takealot for this photo.
It needs a bit of space.
It’s great for active family life, for those who need to print for the insatiable needs of kid’s school work but it will not be a pretty, compact piece of equipment that one can keep hidden on a shelf. Fortunately though, it’s easy enough to move around and with wifi printing capabilities, you could place it anywhere. With the trays packed away, it can easily be stowed away.
The price might seem a little steep.
At around R10,000+ the Epson EcoTank is definitely a choice made on the fact that you can save up to 90% on ink. If you use this for business, then you can claim tax back for it.
I’m going to be testing it some more, and trying out some prints that I have created.
Here’s a list of free printables that I have been using daily for the kids:
