Adjusting the sails

| The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

You would think that I could just enjoy my maternity leave and rest my bones after such an energy-zapping last month of pregnancy. It seems like the logical and most inviting thing to do once you’ve had a baby. But this is me we’re talking about, and without paid maternity leave, UIF being so damn impossible and an insatiable appetite for Cotton On Kids clothing, after two weeks of maternity leave, I got stuck back into business.
Whilst juggling a newborn and multiple jobs was/is exhausting, it made me realize that I enjoyed the creative freedom too much. I loved being my own boss and in charge of my own direction. So I unfurled the mast and let the new breeze steer me into deeper waters. I knew that I couldn’t go back.

Yes, it was daunting to leave the security of 9-5 employment especially when we’ve just had a baby and I would never have risked it if Mr H hadn’t been so supportive. I just knew that the fear of not having an income couldn’t be the main reason for staying put. I’d given four years to the cause and now it was time for me.

So what do I do now?
I think the more accurate question would be, what don’t I do…

Last year my best friend and I set up our own communications agency and combined our marketing, social media and writing skills. We’re called Sweet Lemon Communications  ,we’re 24/7 SM managers who survive off of bubbly and cake and we write mean copy.

I love photography and started doing family shoots awhile back. I’m now back doing that and just did the cutest baby shoot.

Having three Labradors means that we go through a lot of dog beds – Labs just love chewing- and it’s a very costly process. A few years ago, we realized that we could make our own, so we did. We sew Scumbagz dog beds and they are pretty rad.

And finally, I’m giving my blog more attention.
Since the revamp in 2015, it’s been amazing to see how much the readership has grown and how much support I’ve gotten from the food & wine industry – I love you guys!
I like to think that it can only get better so I’m giving myself more time for sourcing content, events, and for my wonderfully honest posts.
Now that I’m not linked to any wineries, I can review wines and wine estates of my choosing and I have more time to explore so make sure you’re subscribed to the blog and following me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram so that you don’t miss anything.

Well there you have it, 2016 is certainly turning out to be a BIG year and I’m excited (a little nervous) to follow this new current.
