We’re going to England!

Guys, in 10 days I’m going to be boarding a plane with Rosie and flying to the UK. We’ll be gone for 5 weeks. *gasp*

Why so long?
Because this is my once-a-year-trip to see my family and honestly, 5 weeks isn’t enough for the hugs that everyone wants to give Rosie – the last time they saw her she was only just 4 months!

Naturally I’m incredibly excited, also very stressed (trying to get work done before I go) and nervous/emotional as heck because Mr H isn’t coming with us. Yes, I’m going to be doing a 19 hour flight with a one year old, on my own. I’m hoping that work will permit him to come out at the end of August for two weeks because my mum has booked him (us, but really, it’s for him) an amazing week in Scotland and it’s been on Mr H’s to-do list FOREVER. But mainly, I hope that he can come out because I’m so torn thinking about how much he’s going to miss his princess and how much she’s going to miss her hero. She changes so much daily, and one hug from her is like stardust and moonbeams, imagine 5 weeks away from that!

Tears aside, I’m in the throes of packing – I LOVE packing and making lists – and with Emirates, I get to take two suitcases of 23kg each. Just one of the reasons I choose to fly with Emirates, the second being cost and the third being their attitude towards kids – they are super well equipped for them and actually encourage families to fly with them.

I’m also looking at fancy old houses and castles that I want to visit and the memories that Rosie and my family will form – I’m pretty sure my mum is counting down the seconds!

So you can expect, over the course of August, to see LOTS of travel pics on my Instagram account, and some videos on Facebook and quirky updates on Twitter.

If anyone has any tips for flying with a kid, let me know in the comments okay, because this time around I won’t be breastfeeding so I don’t have that to fall back on.

I flew with my children a lot when they were small. Twice from Texas to SA with a 1 & 3 YO without husband ? (fortunately my parents were nearby) Once to Australia with 3&5 YO alone. It’s not so bad though. Quite do-able if you’re prepared. I wrote a few tips in an article here if it helps: https://missmelissawrites.com/2015/11/29/flying-with-children/
    Have a great time !!
