Reuben Riffel is well known as a judge on Masterchef South Africa and as the spokesman for Robertson Herbs & Spices. He has a restaurant in Franschhoek, but he also has one in the 5* luxury Small Hotel in Robertson; with the meandering pace of Robertson life and its calming atmosphere, it’s easy to see why he picked this spot.
I first visited Robertson because of Wacky Wine, arguably South Africa’s most attended wine festival and since my first trip, I love revisiting. When staying in the area, the choice of places to choose is almost infinite and the beauty of the area is that there is really something for everyone’s tastes. The Small Hotel caters for those who need luxury in their lives and it would be a lovely location for a romantic getaway.
There are 10 luxurious suites all elegantly furnished and finished immaculately to offer you comfort of the highest standard. Clean lines, natural wood mixed with sleek metal makes it a well integrated and thought out space.
If you are going to stay in the manor house then they do advise you to be aware of the possibility of noise as the restaurant and bar are extremely close. That being said, for those with families, it’s a nice to be able to leave your kids in one of the family rooms and have a late dinner knowing that you are so close by.
Their rooms outside are the most beautiful – spacious yet personal, each with views over the swimming pool (there are two by the way) and furnished in an elegance that I wish I could replicate in my own home.
In their own words:
|The Robertson Small Hotel prides itself on its tranquil picturesque scenery from the property’s simple, yet contemporary architecture. This recently established boutique hotel comprises of ten luxurious guest suites, each rich with character and yet ever so modest making up the perfect home away from home.
