Stop press! Our household has had a complete revelation and it comes in the form of an electrical appliance – The Tommee Tippee Steamer Blender.
The Tommee Tippee Steamer and Blender arrived at my house and was met with much scrutiny. My eldest daughter was not a good eater. She will still turn her nose up at anything green and all my hopes of making delicious homemade purees for her when she was little resulted in disgusted faces and gagging. I really tried as well. I tried to make interesting and healthy combinations but the whole process left me feeling despondent and exhausted.
As soon as Cece began to show interest in food, I was sort of dreading it. It’s not that I don’t want to make healthy, homemade food, don’t get me wrong, it can just be such a hassle. Firstly, I’ve got to cut up veg, then I steam it in my three-tier steamer and then I must add it to a blender. All I can see is mountains of washing up. I also always end up making too much and even though I can freeze it, if Cece doesn’t like the mix, it’s essentially dog food. *sigh*
I’m not one to back down from a potential challenge though, and I unboxed the steamer blender and decided to do the simplest test, and steam and blend butternut.
Folks, it was a dream to use!
As I’m typing this, recanting the multiple times I have now used the machine, I’m really happy to be sharing this review with you as it is in my top 10 of must-haves for parents. No lies. I’m not even saying this to make the folks at Tommee Tippee wet their pants in excitement.
It was easy and efficient and the washing up is an absolute minimal amount.
So how does it work?
Step 1. Plug in the machine. Duh. Add 400ml of water. Peel and cut up the vegetables you want to use. For older kids, you can add in meat too.
Step 2. Fit the jug into its designated slot and turn the bigger black dial to lock. Then select the steam option and the amount of time you’ll think it will need (The handy manual will help).
Step 3. Once the steamer has finished, you can blend. For butternut I chose 2 minutes and it was super smooth, perfect for younger ones. As Cece gets older, I’ll puree it less to get her used to textures.
And did Cece love the first puree that mummy made her?
She adored it. So far, our food journey has been such a blessing because she enjoys eating and I don’t feel stressed out about wasting time on making food. She even loves courgette, and nobody likes courgette!
What we love about it:
- It is so easy to use
- It’s quick
- There is only one item that needs to be washed
- You don’t need to add any attachments
- It’s super lightweight
Its standout features include:
- Steams food to preserve nutrients and flavour in food
- Blends easily to a range of textures for every weaning stage
- No transfer between steaming and blending
- Automatic timer so you can just set, leave, then simply serve or store
- Small number of parts for easy cleaning
- BPA Free for ultimate reassurance
I look forward to continuing to use this throughout the weaning process and I’m so glad I gave it a chance.
Our favorite puree blends currently are:
Butternut & Cinnamon
Sweet Potato
Peas with mint
Courgette, Cauliflower, Courgette & Butternut
You can buy it at Faithful to Nature for R2150 but I’ve also seen it on Loot for R1969.
It’s a game-changer!
